For anyone who wants to come with me, hold my hand, and watch me scream like a little girl when The Ring 2 opens in March. Embarrassing for me, fun for you.....

Saturday Let Down pt. 2

I have to finish up my favorite 80s cartoons, and then I have to read all about stuff. I think I'm going to need new glasses come the first of the year. I spend WAY too much time in front of a book or in front of a computer or both. But anyway...

Defenders of the Earth -- Flash Gordon, Mandrake the Magician, The Phantom and someone named Lothar....and their kids. Weekday mornings. No wonder I was so sleepy in school!

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe -- I watched this a lot, but it doesn't hold up well either. Cartoon network did a remake that wasn't bad. I was totally into this show, though. So much so that I even liked the live action movie. And it has NOTHING to do with the fact that Dolph Lundgren was half naked in it.....

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors -- "There's a power that comes from deep inside of you....." I just remember the theme song from this show. It was super 80s hair band.

Jem -- one of the few "girl" cartoons that I liked. Truly outrageous. I always liked the Misfits. This is disturbing.

Karate Kat -- USA Network had some STUPID cartoons on back in the day. Tigersharks, Grape Ape, JabberJaw.... time I'll never get back.

Kidd Video -- Half live action, Half animation. Another super 80s theme song. More time I won't get back.

The Littles -- so much more catchy than The Lilliputians.

Mr. T. -- Gymnasts were cool.

Pole Position -- Like so many of these, I only remember the 80s-esque theme song to this show.

She-Ra-- I hated this show. Cartoon spin off from He-Man. Just wrong on so many levels.

Shirt Tales -- What I remember most about this show is that Hardees sold stuffed animals characters from it, and we lived really close to Hardees....

Silverhawks -- Everyday after school. A Thundercats Rip off. Thundercats in Space, if you will.

Smurfs -- Is there anyone in the world who didn't watch this show? Ever?

Superfriends -- Best of the 70s-80s cartoons. Its amazing how things like this endure.

Spiderman and his Amazing Friends -- speaking of enduring characters and cartoons...

Thundercats -- Before HO was such a bad word....

Thundarr the Barbarian -- Let's see. A man with a glowing sword, a girl, and a Chewbacca look-alike. Nope, probably never even saw Star Wars.

I watched entirely too much tv. I've seen the error of my ways.

I stood in line for an hour

Yesterday waiting to vote. One hour. That was how long I stood in the line to get my ballot. Add another twenty minutes to that to complete the process. I hadn't planned on voting yesterday. I was walking past the City/County building and I figured I might as well go on inside. I was there. It was there. Makes no sense to just walk on by. Besides, Tuesday is going to be a madhouse and I have a very strict time schedule. And, I didn't want to deal with any assholes telling me I'm not registered, its not my polling place, I'm a convicted felon,.... whatever. Nice and Sweet and Tidy at the Clerk's office. Maybe that should be their motto.

Anyway, so there were some very nice people in the line yesterday. A lot of older people, and a lot of young-ish people. I didn't see anyone in the 30s-40s-50s range. Of course, that's just my opinion. There could have been some people there in all of those age ranges and I'm just a bad guesser of age. No one was complaining about the wait, which I thought was nothing short of miraculous. I did hear a lot of "I haven't voted in 20 years." or "This is my first time ever voting." And, we didn't get to use the cool new machines, so I was bummed about that. When I left, the line was even longer than when I started. I'm curious how the lines will be today and tomorrow.

Saturday Let Down

I have election/political/Bush, Kerry, Kernan, Daniels, bin Laden, Hussein burnout. Let's try something else.

I grew up watching cartoons. Most kids did, I think. Saturday morning, from the pre-dawn hours until at least noon, you could go from one channel to the next checking out your favorite shows. We had a tv, our "good" tv, with a remote control, but do you think I was allowed to tie that one up all morning watching cartoons? Think again, kids. So, if I wanted to turn the channel I had to actually TURN the channel. By hand. I'm sure that was great wrist exercise for my future years as a flute player.....

Anyway, I'm up early to do laundry and there is nothing good on. Nothing animated and good anyway. It got me thinking about what is animated and good out there at all right now. Yes, of course I still watch cartoons. My sister and I both do, and she is 14 years older than I am. My standards have gotten a little higher, though. And, just like any other tv show, it has to engage my brain. This is why the current crop of Pokemon knockoffs (sequels?) saddens me. Is that all that is on Saturday mornings now? I'm going to check out the new The Batman that has turned up on Kids WB. I'm trying not to have high expectations for it, lest I be disappointed. But, really, what else is there? I absolutely love Kim Possible. The Powerpuff Girls are hilarious. The Proud Family is okay, but a little too preachy and plain for my taste. Justice League is pretty good too, although I haven't seen it since it became Justice League Unlimited.

But, there used to be really good cartoons on. Both on Saturday morning and through the week. My all time favorite four:

Batman: The Animated Series
Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers
Visionaries
Gargoyles (Before Disney took over and screwed it up...)

That's a nice beginning, but what else did I watch? There is an entire site for 80s cartoons.

Transformers -- The one, the only, the original.
G.I. Joe -- Every day after school, after Transformers.
Danger Mouse -- I always liked Mighty Mouse better, but this was one of Nickelodeon's first cartoons.
Dragon's Lair -- I remember this was one of the first video games that cost a whopping .50! The show wasn't on very long. Who knew there was still an interest in it as a game.
Alvin and the Chipmunks -- I had no idea this one was on as long as it was.
Dungeons and Dragons -- Damn Satan worshippers. Now they're trying to get through children with Saturday morning cartoons. I saw this show a few years ago, some channel was re-running it. Does not hold up well.
Galaxy High -- man, this was a DUMB cartoon! I watched it faithfully. I think I even realized it was dumb back then. A stepping stone for The Simpsons' Nancy Cartwright
The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera -- I remember some of these very clearly like Galtar and the Golden Lance, Richie Rich, Johnny Quest and Snorks. Some I don't remember at all.

Wow. I have no idea I had as a kid! I'm not even half way through the alphabet! Well, stay tuned for part two. This really has been a great distraction from the campaign. Mission Accomplished.

Sox Rolling Rally

Right now on....let me see....Fox Sports East, the Sox Rolling Rally. The official parade for the Red Sox. In lieu of any good cartoons to watch on Saturday morning (which I'll talk about it just a minute) this will definitely do.

In my email today:

I thought it was worth posting:

Dear Friends,

It's time! Unless you voted early, this Tuesday, November 2, is your opportunity to make your voice heard at the ballot box. Know that your vote really counts.
Here are a few Election Day tips to help your voting experience go as smoothly as possible.
Bring a picture ID. Many states have new identification requirements this year, so play it safe by bringing your drivers license or other official ID if at all possible.

Go to the correct polling place. Many polling places have changed since the last election, and in some states, your provisional ballot will not be counted if you go to the wrong polling place. So check your polling place ahead of time by calling your local election office or reviewing your sample ballot.

Call 1-866-OUR VOTE if you experience or witness a voting emergency. Lawyers will be standing by to provide free, immediate, on-the-spot assistance.
Remember, you have the right to vote if you are in line before the polls close -- no matter how long it takes. There has never been a more important time to make sure that you vote and that your vote is counted.

It seems like the Favre family has more than its fair share of downs in this up and down life. Here's wishing Deanna Favre a speedy and full recovery.

Guest Starring.....

Evan had a dream about me! It doesn't sound like I was very nice, AND I had a very interesting fashion system going on.....

Just for the record, I think Evan is brilliant! And, not to mention, very dedicated. He goes from Georgia to Michigan every week for law school, you know. Amazing.

80 Years?

The New Yorker hasn't endorsed anyone for President in 80 years? I haven't had time to check that (its only 8 in the morning, ya know!) Whether or not its true, it doesn't diminish the New Yorker's endorsement of Kerry. I've read a lot of these (for Bush and Kerry) and none of them were as well reasoned, or well written, as this one.

I'm addicted

I'm addicted to mellowcreme pumpkins. No, they DON'T taste the same as candy corn! Some will say that they do, but they are mistaken.

Yesterday was the first day back after Fall Break, and man did I miss not going directly home after work! But, we were eased back into the routine with a pseudo-midterm....which means we got out early. I was home by 7, and that's always nice. I have to say that this semester hasn't been as harsh, in terms of time, as I had expected. Everyone kept saying "be prepared not to ever sleep." I sleep. I work. Sometimes I'm tired, but I'm never *exhausted*. Or, not any more exhausted than I usually am..... these revelations may all be reflected in my grades come January....

My BBC Audiobooks rep is coming to visit this morning. I keep trying to convince him that I buy what I buy, and not necessarily what he's trying to sell me. He hasn't gotten the picture yet, but its still nice to talk to him.

Sunday, October 24

Damn

So, Raiders Lose.
Colts Lose.
Bears Lose.

Was it me? I would think so, except Liverpool won yesterday 2-0. And, on top of that, Arsenal loses. Oh yeah, and the Red Sox. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a Red Sox fan. I'm a WHITE Sox fan. But, seeing as how I'll be a Supreme Court justice before they ever make it to the Series again, I can cheer for the Red Sox. Although, in all honesty, I'm much more of a Damon/Ortiz/Schilling fan, than a Red Sox fan.

Getting back to Soccer, I have no idea what this picture is about, but its hilarious. But, as long as they win, Harry Kewell can fly all he wants.....

Ridiculous

But no, there won't be a draft....

Friday, October 22

Still funny after all this time.

This website has been up for awhile. It was hilarious the first time I looked at it. Its hilarious now. What's even funnier is that the people who should get it, won't.

The letters are the best, but the testimonials are good too. The sad thing is most of things happen to me all the time....to most people I know, actually.

Maybe I'm just in a good mood because I heard my future husband on the radio this morning.

Thursday, October 21

Uh Oh

They've opened a new Bed Bath & Beyond on W 86th street. Relatively speaking, its right around the corner now. I may never have money again.

On a related note, I saw in their ad that they have an iron for $99. Now, maybe I'm just not thinking about this the right way, but why on earth would you need a $99 iron? Anyone?

1928

For some reason, we had an old copy of The Arbutus from 1928 lying around. It looks kind of like a yearbook, and its from IU, so I'm proposing that its the IU yearbook! I love looking through things like that, so I had to take a peek. They had some original poetry by students, and while most of it was nothing to write home about (sorry!) this one was pretty cute:

Letter from the Dean

Mr. Andrew McHugh,
Since my last to you,
Your son has been missing his classes.
I have come to the conclusion
That much of the confusion
Has been caused by affairs with the lasses.

He's all bluff and guessin',
He never has his lesson,
He misses two classes a day.
If you answer this letter,
We'll make him do better,
Or send the poor devil away.
William Moenkhaus

Speaking of TV....

I haven't been doing much this year. Who has time for tv? I watch sports and that's pretty much it....except for Sunday nights. There are many shows that I like that are still on the air. Smallville, One Tree Hill, Navy NCIS, JAG, Charmed, Andromeda....but I don't have time to watch, or even keep up with, these anymore. However, I have reserved Sunday nights for tv shows. The Wire, Desperate Housewives and Boston Legal. I was never a big fan of The Practice, but I started watching when James Spader joined the cast. I would watch (and have watched) James Spader in anything. Anything. Adding Mark Valley to the cast of BL was another stroke of brilliance. He's never really gotten the recognition he deserved, but he was great in Keen Eddie.

Am I surprised that "family" groups are putting pressure on the sponsors of Desperate Housewives? No. Is it too bad? Yes. Its a great show. Am I surprised that I took that quiz and turned out to be Lynette? No. She's my favorite anyway.

I plan to spend most of Christmas break watching Farscape. I watched the mini series over the weekend and fell in love. Now that they're all on dvd, and there aren't any "new" episodes, that's something I can get a handle on. And, since a friend of mine has them all on dvd, its not even something I have to buy. You can't get a better break than that!

I miss those other shows, but I'll have to try and catch them on dvd. This is about all I can handle right now. When 24 comes back in January, it may be time to re-evaluate.....

I had a feeling this would be me...

Congratulations! You are Lynette Scavo, the

boredom, mixed with moments of sheer panic as

The Ring

Scary! The Ring happened to be on HBO yesterday, so I sacrificed some football time to check it out. It was daylight and there wasn't a man there trying his best to get me to jump out of my skin, and it was still scary! It was good, though. I still think about it, which means it must have done a minor mind fuck on me. I didn't have to sleep with the light on....

Once upon a time

In undergrad, we had a very lovely (if not slightly crazy) student who tried to convince the rest of us in the class that Randall Jarrell's poem Death of the Ball Turret Gunner was about abortion. Someone asked me a question about this poem today and it reminded me of that day. Here is the poem. You decide.

The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner
From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

Jon Stewart

Absolutely kicked Tucker Carlson's ass on Crossfire. The transcripted is listed on the CNN site, but the audio is 100x better. I found a link in the comments of a blog, so I can't link to it. If you can find it, though, its worth a listen.

The White Mountains

About a week ago I was helping a co-worker with a reference question when I got one of my own. This is the information that the patron gave me, I wrote it all down:

Young boy, teen, recruited by rebels. Aliens have taken over earth. Athletes taken into city. Boy gone into city as a spy. No title. No author. Sequel, no title. Reprinted as comic around 1982 in Boys' Life magazine. Aliens weakness: had to breathe special gas. Had 2 mouths.

Now, it took my co-worker a good long time to stop laughing as she read over my shoulder. By this time, I was determined to find it. We get a lot of people looking for books and they don't have an author, or a title, or anything. They usually have some parts of the plot right, but not all. Luckily for me, we had Boys Life magazine from 1982 on microfilm. So yes, I did go up and search through the issues until I found it. I think I found it in the May or June issue. The patron didn't do too badly as far as what he remembered. He had some things wrong (no two mouths, no special gas) Almost everything else was right. So, after all that, I need to read this book. It was published in 1967, reprinted as a comic in 1982, and just recently reprinted in a special 35th anniversary edition, and I'd never heard of it before. Not that I expect to hear about every book, but it seems like this would have been a pretty important one in the realm of juvie Science Fiction, which I like. Oh well. One of the chapters had Ozymandias in the title, so it caught my interest.

My Fall Break

Yay!!! Fall Break is here!!! I'll get to see my house before dark every night this week!!! And my big plans for the week? Well, I think I have a semi schedule worked out.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday: I plan to read books. Real books. Fiction books. I have the new Laurell K. Hamilton book, Incubus Dreams, which has been sitting on my couch for TWO weeks. That is an enormous show of will power on my part, but I said I wasn't going to touch it for fall break and I didn't. I also have an old favorite, Lullaby Town, that I checked out yesterday. As far as mystery writers go, I can't recommend Robert Crais highly enough. Robert Crais, George Pelecanos and Harlan Coben. Just go out right now and reading everything you can find by these three.

The last book I'm going to try and read this week is actually a children's book, The White Mountains. There is a great story behind how I came across this book and I'll have to post it later on today if I still have the info.

The rest of the week, Tuesday-infinity, I need to start doing outlines for our two pseudo-midterms after fall break. And, I suspect, there will be some dvd watching going on this week too.

Friday after work: Martini party at Nicky Blaine's to celebrate making it to fall break. Yes! $7.00 Martinis here I come! Price aside, it should be fun. All are welcome to come out and play if you wish.

And, that is my plan. It'll be interesting to see how according to plan this works out.

Jesus is on the main line

I've had this song in my head since yesterday. I've listened to many other songs since then, this one remains. Here's the story:

Yesterday (Friday) someone at work mentioned Bush had God's beeper number. Another silly co-worker said "call him up and tell him what you want" which is a line from the song. That's it. That's all it took to get a song absolutely and completely STUCK in my head.

To make matters even worse, most churches don't even SING this song anymore! If you find an old school church with an old school congregation, you might hear it. You know, a church that doesn't like those "new gospel" songs. An "old time religion" chuch. (which is another song I don't need stuck in my head....) Anyway, the point being that I haven't heard this song in a long time, but its still right there. That is scary. If only I could remember other things so easily.

Hot Chocolate

Today is nearly the perfect hot chocolate day. I say nearly only because if it were a wee bit colder....it would absolutely the perfect day. Still, today was almost perfect. The walk over to the South Bend Chocolate Company was nice, and there was a group of urchins hanging out at the monument on a school field trip. They were cute.

Any health benefits of the walk were nullified by the large hot chocolate, I'm sure. Best hot chocolate in....walking distance? I don't know if its the best hot chocolate ever.....

Library Fix

I just heard one of our clerks tell someone "The first one is always free."

Now, I assume she was talking about a library card, and not some business she's got going on the side, but its still pretty funny. The library is like a drug to some people. They usually end up being librarians....

Halloween(ie)

I like to be scared. I get scared easily. Therefore, I'm always good for entertaining people when we watch horror movies together. As this month progresses, they will be all over the tv, so I thought I would list some of my favorites. Some scared the bejesus out of me, some made me laugh, some I hate to admit I've even seen.

Scaring the shit out of me:

  1. Candyman (1992) I slept with my light on for a week after watching this movie. I had a mirror on my closet door, it just wasn't a good scene.
  2. The Exorcist (1973) You know, a lot of people say this isn't scary because of its age. It doesn't have all the scary special effects and it looks dated. You know, maybe you just need a really good imagination to be terrified by this, but I don't think the date matters nearly as much as the content. No, the special effects aren't particularly frightening, but the movie is about more than split pea soup.
  3. The Omen (1976) I have no idea why this movie scared the crap out me, but it did. And, to add insult to embarrassment, I watched in the middle of a Sunday afternoon! Broad daylight! Scary. Is it a coincidence that that little shit who played Damien hasn't done much else since then?
  4. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) & (1956) I don't really like the idea that your friends, family, whoever could be evil aliens. Nope, not a good thing. I think the '78 version is scarier, though.
  5. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) I haven't seen this since 1986 so I imagine its pretty stupid now. It was probably stupid then, but it scared me half to death.
  6. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) I love this movie. Even today, knowing full well how stupid it is, I still love it. The first time I saw it, I thought there were parts of it that was hilarious and parts that made me not want to fall asleep. Freddy movies were a lot like Star Trek movies, though. Every other one was good....
  7. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) Sometimes, I can still hear that song. "One Two, Freddy's coming for you..." That shit was (is) scary!!
  8. The First Power (1990) I think I may have been one of three people who actually went to see this movie. I thought it was scary. The people I went with laughed.

Horror-esque:

  1. Interview with the Vampire (1994) I can't believe its been ten years for this movie! That can't be right! Anyway, great film. I don't think of vampire movies as horror movies, but millions of people disagree. I think this is one of TC's best movies, actually.
  2. Evil Dead & Evil Dead 2 (1981, 1987) The first one was scary. The second one was scary, yet silly. Yet scary. I'm not crazy about Army of Darkness (1993) outside of the fact that Bruce Campbell is in it. Just my opinion.
  3. Dawn of the Dead (1978) I laughed. I jumped. I hid my eyes. I had no idea a sequel was out this year. Ving Rhames, even. Where was I?
  4. Night of the Living Dead (1968) Its so old, I couldn't take it seriously. Exactly what some people say about The Exorcist. But, I still had a few shaky moments watching this. I'm not a fan of zombies.
  5. From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) I really liked the first half of this movie. The second half.... not so much.
  6. Event Horizon (1997) I still haven't seen this movie from beginning to end. I've seen the beginning. I've seen the middle. I've seen the end....not all at the same time.
  7. Pitch Black (2000) Riddick...... No, really, this was a great movie. There are some who were scared half to death by it, and I find that incredibly amusing. To me, this is more SF than horror, but people tell me I have that absolutely wrong. I would classify it along the lines of Aliens.(1986)

Bad Movies that I love:

  1. Blood Ties (1991) I'm not sure all the people who were in this movie even saw it. Made for tv, not the highest of anyone's priorities. And, in all honesty, it wasn't very good. It was entertaining.
  2. Witchboard (1986) I was young. I didn't know any better. The money was good.... Actually, I'm not nearly as ashamed to say I liked this movie as I am to admit I liked...
  3. Waxwork (1988) It was supposed to be a horror movie. I can see how parts of it were clearly supposed to inspire terror and fear. I have seen this movie multiple times, but I can't say I was ever scared.
  4. Phantoms (1998) Michael DeLorenzo, Liev Schreiber, Nicky Katt, Ben Affleck.....

No Redeeming qualities whatsoever:

  1. The People Under the Stairs (1991) This is on the short list of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. Not scary. Not funny. Not worth my time or my money. Wes Craven, I expected better!
  2. A Nightmare on Elm Street #'s 2, 4, 5...

We're number 6!!

It just doesn't sound as good as "We're number 1" but we'll take it. The annual HAPLR ratings are out for 2004, and the Indianapolis-Marion County PL was rated 6th out of.....77 in our category. The categories are by population size, and we're in the 500k+ size group. Table 4. is the library ratings. Indiana, overall, was 4th in the rating, which is where we were last year. And, I believe, Indiana had at least 1 top ten library almost every population categories. Good stuff.

Thursday, October 7

Don't know where I was on June 8th...

But I missed one of my favorite people on the Tavis Smiley Show. Many of you might know, or have heard, Everlast as the front man for the group House of Pain. If you were anywhere near a college frat party in the early 1990s (or a dance club, or a house party...) then you heard the song "Jump Around." You still hear it, and it makes me feel really old to think about how old that song is. Anyway....

There is a transcript there of the conversation, but I really encourage you to listen to the actual interview. Of course, there are a lot of people out in the world who don't think musicians should have thoughts (or express thoughts) that don't relate to their songs or the songs of others. So, if that's you, it probably isn't for you.

Besides the fact that I absolutely love his voice, and saying I've been a fan of his since 1990, makes me feel old. As I listen to that first cassette, though, I see how much both of us have changed. In the interview, he doesn't talk much about "politics" per se, but he makes a very astute observation about the politics of music. One out of context comment:

Tavis: ... What's the best thing about the hip-hop game, even today, and what troubles you most about the hip-hop game as we sit here?

Everlast: Um, I'm probably gonna get in trouble for this--the videos I see on TV. If, like--if a white person was responsible for some of 'em, they would be like--it would be like straight out of “Bamboozled,” you know what I mean? It would be like that.

Absolutely. He also talks a little bit about the heart defect that nearly killed him at age 27, and a lot about the title of his new (relatively) album White Trash Beautiful. That heart thing is pretty scary.

And did I mention that I absolutely love his voice?

LIAR!

LIAR!!!!

http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docID=272

update: this title could also now be applied to me. A guy just asked me if I had a boyfriend and I told him yes, I did. I think the other option was "no, but i'm not interested in you, crazy man who stares at me all day." I don't know. Wasn't it nicer to lie?

Tuesday's Story

Every day the story changes. From Hussein having WMDs to Hussein wanting WMDs and now its Hussein would have given WMDs to terrorists, according to Paul Bremer in the Washington Post. Tomorrow, it will be something else.

Oh yeah, and he blathers on about not enough troop levels, should have contained lawlessness after fall of Saddam Hussein....none of this is news. Of course they botched the entire post "Mission Accomplished" effort. But the reason why there was a mission in the first place just keeps changing. Eventually, they may settle on a story that everyone can agree with.

In other "not news" today, we've learned that we're dealing with a complex insurgency in Iraq.

And that Donald Rumsfeld is also a flip flopper. No bad intelligence. Bad intelligence.

Oh yeah, speaking of Sec. Rumsfeld, this is what he says about the Saddam-al-Qaida link. Now, when VP Cheney mentions the link in tonight's debates, we can compare stories.

God, that's enough to ruin a perfectly good breakfast.

Yesterday's Class

Seemed like it wasn't ever going to end.

Ever.

I don't know what the problem was. I don't think it was entirely prof's fault, but I could be wrong about that. It didn't help when "raise your hand girl" raised her hand to bring up issues entirely irrelevant to the discussion, thereby prolonging the agony. It would be different if there was a legitimate question. Nobody would fault her for not understanding something. But when she raises completely tangential topics.....we start to think she wants to hear herself speak. Office hours, Honey. Use them. Love them. Leave the rest of us alone.

I love

those stupid "Play Beer" commericals Miller has out now. The ones with the refs? I laugh every time I see one. Very clever, I think.

Why?

Why did E get skipped over in the grading scale?

Weird Dreams

I had a very strange dream right before I woke up this morning:

We had lockers (i don't have a locker in real life) and I was talking with one of my classmates while we were at said lockers. She was wearing jeans and a t-shirt, normal student fare. We went to class (different classes) and in this class I found out she'd been the female lead in Raiders of the Lost Ark. We get back to our lockers, after class, and she's dressed in full Academy Award splendor and I ask for her autograph. She seems put out that I didn't recognize her when she was dressed in the student getup.

Weird? Maybe I should consult a dream book. Drat. The dream book I want isn't on the shelf. Oh well. Any dream interpreters out there? My interpretation is that I think this person thinks they are better than me, even though she really isn't. But, then, why would I ask for her autograph?

No Cheeseburgers!

There are a million people downtown today. Luckily, our interim building is far enough away from festivities that parking isn't an issue. When we were in the St. Clair street building, getting to work was (at best) a hassle. At worst, it was impossible. Cops would block the streets and often wouldn't let us into our own damn parking lot.

But, I digress.... a million people downtown today and all I wanted for lunch was a cheeseburger. Many of our usual lunch haunts are closed on the weekend, so I figure a pub/tavern/grill would have cheeseburgers, right?

Uh...no. We went to the Old Point Tavern on Mass Ave. They don't have cheeseburgers. I think this should disqualify them from being a tavern. Surely, there must be something in the Indiana Code that says, specifically, all taverns that serve food must serve cheeseburgers to be called a tavern. Its an outrage! I'd been there before, and I like their food, but I just assumed that they had cheeseburgers. IT'S A TAVERN!

I heard an accident this morning too, while I was walking from the parking lot to the building. I live on a fairly busy street, so I often hear the screech of tires as they try to avoid hitting something, but I have never heard the actual crash. Today, I heard the actual crash. I turned around, saw that both drivers were all right, and the damage must not have been that bad. They were both able to pull over to the side of the street (Ohio) and exchange information.

Our lot was also marked for event parking today. We're quite a ways from the dome, so I don't know that I'd want to pay the 3 bucks to park that far away. But, I guess if you're from out of town you don't really know that. And, maybe if you don't have any little ones, its not such a bad walk. It is an absolutely beautiful day. It was kind of irritating, though, to have the lot that we've paid for hijacked. I wonder if we get any money for this or if, essentially, Denison parking is getting paid twice for the same spots that are already sold.
