The Sound of Fate Knocking

Listening to XM Classics today, they played Beethoven's 5th Symphony. I get chills every time I hear it. Love the minor keys. Anyway, so they were discussing it, and apparently the beginning four notes (oh, you know the ones) are supposed to be the sound of fate knocking. Fantastic! Of course, that motiff is repeated throughout the entire work, but what a great metaphor, huh?
