Huh

We just read the Korematsu case in Con law about a week-week and a half ago.

Today's CD

Anthony Hamilton. This CD has been around since Fall 2003, and is still going strong. I was a little bit lukewarm about his first single, but loved the song "Charlene" so much I was thinking about changing my name.....

But, you know, the entire CD is amazing. And I just used my Lexis Ultimate Reward points to buy it from Amazon. So, amazing and free. It almost makes up for my couch being delayed....almost.....

Jack meets Hank

Why do our radio stations now have names? Jack, of course, is the new station that Kelly and Kelly P have been touting. I have to admit, it sounds great. Hank is a new country station that I read about in the Star this morning. (oh, okay, just a few minutes ago!) Touted as a mix between "old" and "new" country. Middle aged country? Mid life country? Young adult country? How old would you say Hank was?

Anyway, just wondering about the trend of naming radio stations. It seems a little....odd.....

As an aside: I have XM radio in the house, but not in the car. I have gone back and forth about getting the car version, but I always come back to: In the morning, I like listening to the morning shows or 88.7's classical. If both of those fail, I pop in a CD. In the evening, I like listening to either a CD or 90.1's classical. Other than that, I'm not in the car. The only time when it would really come in handy is on loooong trips.

All that said, I do LOVE my XM. Stations don't really have names, though.....still don't get that.

Unclutter

This is what I'm aiming to: A state of being that is just shy of Nirvana. My problem? My one roadblock?

Books. I have way too many books. Books Books Books. Okay, maybe that isn't really my "one" problem. But, right now, its the biggest, heaviest, problem. I have got to get rid of some of these books.

I have gotten rid of a lot so far. Books from undergrad. Books from grad school #1. Books from grad school #2. I even found some old tests (why?!) and shit that I had moved from place to place to yet another place. Ugh. Those are all entering their next life in some landfill. Bye Bye.

The problem is with books that I haven't read yet. I get all these "advanced reader copies" of books and I grab the ones that look interesting to me and bring them home. I get them from work or from conferences like BEA. I say I'm going to read them. Mostly.....I don't. So, they have to go. All the ones that aren't signed, that is. I do think I should get special dispensation for signed books.

And Half Price books doesn't take advanced reader copies because, technically, they aren't supposed to be resold. So, out they go. I mean, really. They're real books now. If I want to read it, I can check it out from the damn library. (which doesn't explain why I have so many books in the first place....)

Except, I'm keeping my, unsigned copy of The Known World by Edward P. Jones It won a Pulitzer last year and signed advanced reader copies are going for 195-250 bucks on Bookfinder. Looks like I'll have to spend the next few years trying to chase down Mr. Jones to get him to sign my book.

No, I haven't read it, damn you! What's your point?

Bad Blogger

So, I posted a picture on Blogger. I was going to talk about my nostalgic car tunes day. But, blogger won't let me edit any posts (including pictures.)

It will let me post new things, though. What is going on?

Today's Car Tunes

Dug out a golden oldie from the cd changer today. I used to LOVE this CD. And, you know, it has held up pretty well over the years.

A recipe for delicious tv....

"Battlestar Galactica is a very dark human story which also happens to be science fiction."

This must be why I am LOVING this show so much.

T minus 3 days....

Until I get my couch!

Its been so long since I ordered it, I've forgotten what it looks like.

I know it was a sandy/tan sort of color. To match the sand/burgundy of my living room....

Thursday can't get here soon enough!

Friday Spies

Stealing from Brian (who stole from a long list of others....)

  • What blog, other than your own, do you read the most?

Neurosis' blog is one I check everyday, several times a day, as well as Just Playin', Talk Left, Cynical-C. Others that I read (and love) but aren't updated every day: Jelly Beans and Corduroy and Sleepy Sage

  • Are you a gadget person? Do you have the latest thingamajigs and whoozits and geegaws? What sorts of gadgets do you own?

Well, I am sort of a gadget girl. (technobabe if you ask certain people at work.) But, I don't think I own anything out of the ordinary. I have the usual stuff. I just may have gotten it before other people. I've had a dvd player since 1998 (and I LOVE my dvd player.) I also have odd things....like a record player, for instance. Don't see very many of those around. But, do also have home theater sound complete with speakers on the walls. But, all that stuff is pretty standard now.

  • If I gave you $1000 on the condition that you couldn't spend it on something responsible (e.g bills), or save it, what would you do with it?

Vacation, definitely. Or, tickets to some sporting event with really, really, really good seats. But, I'm thinking that counts as vacation. Going to see Liverpool at Anfield? Superbowl tickets? I don't know.

  • What are your five favorite sitcoms of all time other than Seinfeld or The Simpsons?

Living Single, The Cosby Show, Welcome Back, Kotter (damn funny in its day!) Family Ties and......The Facts of Life.

  • Organize a film festival based on a theme. Choose a theme and a handful of movies with that theme, and tell us what you've chosen.

Well, the theme I'm going with right now is movies that are bad but are nostalgically (to me) good. Band of the Hand, Grease 2, The Pirate Movie, White Dog, Carbon Copy. You're all coming to my film fest, right?

Good Knight

Someone's cell just went off and it was the Knight Rider theme song!

Do I not feel bad? Or am I super impressed?

I think its a little of both! Kevin and I were discussing this show earlier today. Well, Kevin was discussing and I was giving him my patented blank look. I had no idea what he was talking about. After consulting the almighty TV TOME, I still don't know what he's talking about, but I'm super impressed that HE has such amazing recall. Usually, after I've had a few hints, I can recall a show. This one? No can do. But, I don't feel too bad because it was only on from October 85-February 86

Wuss or Not Wuss?

I was watching this video on Sunday morning as part of my semi obsession with fire fighting. It was pretty interesting, as those A&E things usually are, and then they showed something I thought was completely not necessary. In the interest of all the parents that I have reading my blog, I won't describe it except to say that the fire started in a baby's room.

I was horrified and, in fact, still have that image in my head and probably will for quite some time. So, I was talking with a co-worker about this, and she wanted to put a disclaimer on the video saying that it contained graphic images or something to that effect.

Just wondering if it warranted a sticker. I mean, the image was only on there for about 10-20 seconds but it really was that horrible.

Old home week

So, I'm working at the Glendale library today. Good for me because its closer to my house AND I didn't have to be here until 10. Yay me. I got to sleep in. But, they've turned the boiler off (for the summer) and it is FREEZING in here. No, seriously.

I used to work at Glendale before I moved to Central in mid-2001 so its like going home again. Very much fun.

Monday, March 21

Yikes

I guess I'd better hurry up if I want to buy my Star Wars Celebration III tickets online. They vanish as of April 1st.

I'm thinking Friday is the day I'm gonna go. I would love to go Friday and Saturday, but I have an exam on the 29th and its Cooper's exam, so I'm thinking that I'd better not be having TOO much fun that week before.

Dumb exam schedule getting in the way of my geekiness.....

Besides, the 25th is payday. Always a bonus.

Saturday, March 19

Couldn't we just once die without all this bickering?

I'm currently watching Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and, I have to admit, I'm enjoying it. Much more than I ever imagined I would.

Thursday, March 17

Down with the Klan

Well, its Wednesday and I haven't started reading the "black man and the Klan" book that I SAID I was going to read over break. But, I have a good excuse. I watched Ladder 49 on Monday and you all know how I love Fire fighters...... Anyway, so I checked out some books and they are MUCH more interesting than Klan crap.

For instance: Did you all know that Montel Williams' dad, was the first black fire chief of a major U.S. city? Baltimore. Read all about it in his bio Firefighter. I checked out a few other books too, and I have to say they all look imminently more exciting than the klan book. Spring break is about having fun, right? Not much fun in reading about the kkk.

Monday, March 14

D, I*F

And, in the "Damn, I forgot" category, I forgot to watch the 60 minutes with George Lucas last night.

Friday, March 11

Spring Break Reading

In addition to the comics I borrowed from Kevin, a co-worker of mine told me about this gem: Klan-Destine Relationships: A Black Man's Odyssey in the Ku Klux Klan. Well, with a title like that, I have to check it out. Kirkus didn't like it, gave it a nasty review, and I'm ususally inclined to believe them. But, I'm curious. (and yes, I know what happened to that curious cat.)

For My Fans

Actually, I guess it would be for Vin's fans. All those people googling my site... I so hate to disappoint.

Wednesday, March 9

Why did this remind me

of Brian? I'm just askin'......

What do you get the graduating law student who has everything?

Duh!

Shamelessly Stolen from the Cyncial-C blog.

Dre, step to the mic like a phantom......

It was way back Wednesday in my car this morning and today's selection mostly reflects my mood. A semi-dusty classic, The Chronic.

I think, after this album.....I can count the Rap albums that I've heard in their entirety (and liked) on my fingers. Not the fingers of one hand, but close. I know I'm sounding old, but they just don't make Rap albums the way they used to. All these new people.....I don't like 'em.

But this is a classic. A classic for pissed off workers.

Let the day begin!

Tuesday, March 8

Very Interesting

And so the controversy begins.

Bad Planning

So, next week is Spring Break? Why didn't I take next week off work as well? If you answered "Because you're dumb" that is probably the correct answer. (unless you're my cousin and you answered "Because you'd better be saving your vacay time to come to my wedding.")

Still, I'll take the niceness of being able to go right home after work. It just could have been a little better, that's all.

Sunday, March 6

DAMN YOU NEUROSIS!!!

and your damn Buckeyes.

Saturday, March 5

Serendipity

I'm a Wordperfect gal. Don't ask me why, I just love it. I love it to pieces. I love it more than Word. Love it.

Anyway, so I'm helping someone find a book on Word and I just stumble, literally, over this book that had fallen off the shelf (maybe at my head) on WP. Its a pretty, glossy, shiny, colorful book and now I can learn to do all kinds of nifty things with my favorite word processing program.

Serendipity indeed.

Friday, March 4

Yummy

Many, many people are happening onto my blog by doing a search for Vin Diesel pics. Now, I'm not saying that is is inaccurate, but I haven't posted Vin pics here in a long time.

Maybe I'll rectify that if I get some time this weekend. I'd hate for all those google searches to go unrewarded, after all....

Have fun at prom, guys!

Tomorrow is the Barrister's Ball at IU-Indy. I, however, am not going. I'm sure its going to be a great event, and I am going to try and make at least one out of the four that'll pass during my time here. But, tomorrow my friend Michelle turns 40!! Can't miss out on that party. Although, fighing off icky germs and working all day will probably see my part of the party ending a lot earlier than I had previously anticipated.

So, anyway, have a good time and I can't wait to hear all about it!

HUH?

Taken (out of context) from AOL:

Distractions: In another study, when women who normally watched what they ate listened to a taped detective story, they consumed more calories. Researchers suspect the story interfered with the women's focus on keeping calories in check. Beat it by: Clearing all distractions; let the enjoyment of the meal provide your focus.

Why detective stories in particular? Or am I missing the point there? :o)

Will a trip to Super Target

Make me feel more human? And nice? I don't know, but I'm going to give it a shot. I'm thinking that a trip to Carmel will make me exactly the opposite, but who knows. I'll give it the old college try. After a week of feeling icky, and work being icky, and school being icky....a trip to Super Target may be just what the doctor ordered.

Although, my bad attitude must not be showing too much. Two consecutive people just told me what a nice person I am, and that I was very helpful to them.

bah. helpful. bah!

And the security guard who likes to come by and linger and stare at my chest? He's likely to get a piece of my mind this afternoon if he lingers too long.

It'd be different if he were cute.....

45 more minutes. 44....

Wednesday, March 2

Huh?

Sunday afternoon, around 4ish, I heard the ice cream man. I had to go to the window to confirm, and there he was.

Is winter no longer sacred?
